1. How could the German people have been induced to follow such despotic (tyrant / absolute) leaders?
2. What is the personality style of people who blindly obey terrible orders such as happened in the Holocaust?
3. How could the nation that produced some of the greatest musicians, philosophers, scientists, and humanitarians the world has ever known also produce the atrocities of the Nazi regimes?
4. Could the atrocities that happened in a Fascist state also happen in a democracy?
5. Could Americans, who have been brought up in a democracy, be as easily regimented as the Germans?
Well, Adorno (1973) organised a research team trying to answer those questions, and to investigate whether Americans could become as fanatic and Fascist as the Germans and Italians under the regimes of Hitler and Mussolini.
Conclusion of Research finding:
Even in the bastions of democracy, a large percentage of people had attitudes that were consistent with the Fascists of Italy and Germany.
interesting. thanks for sharing this information with us! it shows the dark side of human nature, among other things. check out my entry on new orleans (bottom of the page)
